example for master copy assignment

Set up drawing and copy side by side with the intent of doing exact size replica.

Starting with gesture start to find the simplified idea of pose. Keep it light so that adjustments are easier to make and so that you can develop the unique idea of form without early lines overwhelming drawing. Continue to check proportions, angles, tilts and shape using a skewer/string. Step back often.

Close up of initial gesture. Start to develop the block-in from here. Simplify the form. Do not get caught up into smaller forms and details. The intent is to set up the drawing for the next step, do not "finish" any edges.

Trace a block-in over the copy - simplifying the form into generalized arced/straight lines.

Only after plenty of time has been spent using observational tools to lay out the drawing, lay the traced block-in over your drawing to see where major problems are and start to make adjustments. Note that my red lines underneath need some adjusting.

After making adjustments your original drawing should start to blend into the traced block-in. Continue drawing without trace, further breaking down the form lightly, setting yourself up for values/form defining lines.
*I want to see each copy at this state before I give the ok for value/form defining lines
