block-ins

here are a few more examples of block-ins from anthony rider
make note, i am not a fan of the "envelope" as it is not very direct to the figure's form. i prefer to go into the second stage of his technique and possibly use the envelope like lines to check my progress later

here, betty discusses how to use a tool like a pencil (or bike spoke ;) to observe angles, tilts and proportions

this is a must have in your library. most everything i have ever heard about drawing is in speed's book in one form or another. i like how he discusses (i'm paraphrasing) ... "the block-in is something that every artist does, at least mentally, if not literally on the page"
i did not include the literature, but he gives a good visual

of course, bargue is great for examples of block-ins
