intaglio - drypoints
here are a few drypoints to look at. these are exclusively done in drypoint, where as some intaglio prints are done with combinations of etching, drypoint and such. the common characteristics, for better or worse, of drypoint prints are that due to direct approach, the lines can range from a bold to delicate marks. you might also notice the image can have a very "dirty" feel along with unique line qualities. this can come from the raised burr making it difficult to wipe the plate clean up to the edges of the lines getting a dirty surface between the lines. this extra tone is often welcomed, but can be hard to replicate each print. at times the lines tend to be soft or blurry do to the ink squishing out of the burr while ran through the press. you will see that the examples shown give a good idea of the range of lines one can make. pressure plays a roll when drawing in drypoint, depending on the amount of force when making the mark there is variation between very soft lines
